On the outside, everything looks fine. You have your life together, people see you as capable, happy and successful. Sure you like a drink, but so does everyone else you know. You're very adept at keeping up the facade that it's just something you do socially. But inside, you're slowly falling apart and things are feeling more and more out of control...
You're waking up at 3am sweaty, with a pounding heart and spiraling anxious thoughts about your drinking. You overdid it again. You only intended to have a couple, or maybe none at all - and here you are, yet again. You feel scared, embarrassed, ashamed and alone - why does this keep happening? You ask yourself "What is WRONG with me?"
You keep making promises to yourself to drink less or not at all, only to find yourself pouring a drink at 5pm. You can't figure out why it's so hard to just NOT DRINK. You blame yourself - you SHOULD be able to get this under control.
So many people (myself included) stay stuck so much longer than necessary because we feel shame about not being able to 'control' our drinking. Something must be wrong with me, we say to ourselves. I am not strong enough, I don't have enough willpower, everyone else seems fine - what is wrong with me? It doesn't feel safe to talk about because we fear people will judge us. And we certainly don't want to identify with a label like "alcoholic."
The truth is, alcohol is addictive to the human body - it just is. If you are living in a human body (we all are!), and you are drinking more than you want to, you are not broken and you are not alone. You are HUMAN and you are in very good company (even if no one is talking about it). You CAN get your control back without blame, shame or judgement. And you don't need to rely on willpower alone.

I looked like I had everything together on the outside – beautiful family, great marriage, exciting expat life living in China, Korea, and Brazil. But privately, I was drinking a bottle of wine a night (or more), and nobody knew - not my husband, not my kids, not my friends.
I was surrounded by loving people, yet I felt completely alone. I was afraid to keep drinking and afraid to stop. Alcohol was both my best friend and my worst enemy. Everyone I knew drank and seemed to be doing fine - what was wrong with me? And who would I even be without alcohol?? I mean - I got married in Napa, CA - wine-drinking was part of my identity.
When I first learned of This Naked Mind methodology in October 2022, I hadn't had more than a handful of days without alcohol in over 15 years. I was so tired of all my drinking thoughts - will I? won't I? how much? do I have enough? how much can I have? when is it ok to start? why can't I stop? on and on they went. I felt fragile, anxious and alone.
What changed everything?
I got desperate. I knew I needed to NOT DRINK Monday - Thursday for 3 weeks so I could drive my 17 year old daughter to Driver's Ed at 7pm and pick her up at 9pm. Seems simple, right? But I was terrified I would not be able to do it. I was desperate for support and embarrassed and ashamed that this felt so hard for me. And then an ad for a 21-day challenge popped up on my feed that coincided with those 3 weeks. Full of fear and desperate for change, I signed up. From that moment on, everything changed. I realized I wasn't alone - and there was a term for people like me - gray area drinkers or middle lane drinkers. I wasn't broken, I wasn't doomed or hopeless. With this first introduction to the methodology that changed everything for me, I started to experience hope for the first time in forever. I went on to spend an entire year learning everything I could about alcohol and my relationship with it. I dove into my beliefs about alcohol and about myself. I found community, support and coaching. I started to question everything I had taken for granted for so long. And ultimately I decided I prefer life alcohol-free -- which was a complete shocker to me and everyone around me!
Now I help people like me to take an honest look at the role of alcohol in their lives. If it's taking more than it's giving - you don't need to wait for a rock bottom to make a change. You deserve more - you deserve a life you don't feel like you "NEED" alcohol to navigate through or to escape from. Let me help you build that life.
